SREB Attends the 21st Edition of Kwita Izina 2026
On 4 September 2026, Save the Rwandan Environment and Biodiversity (SREB) had the privilege of attending the 21st edition of Kwita Izina, Rwanda’s annual gorilla naming ceremony.
The event brought together conservationists, government representatives, development partners, researchers, communities, and distinguished guests from Rwanda and around the world to celebrate Rwanda’s remarkable commitment to protecting its natural heritage.
During this year’s ceremony, 22 baby mountain gorillas were officially named, marking another important milestone in Rwanda’s ongoing efforts to conserve the endangered mountain gorilla population and protect its natural habitat.
For SREB, participating in Kwita Izina was an opportunity to connect with fellow conservation actors, celebrate Rwanda’s achievements in biodiversity conservation, and reaffirm our commitment to environmental protection and sustainable biodiversity management.
The success of Rwanda’s gorilla conservation efforts demonstrates what can be achieved when strong conservation policies, scientific research, community engagement, sustainable tourism, and partnerships come together.
SREB is proud to be part of Rwanda’s growing conservation community and remains committed to supporting initiatives that protect wildlife, ecosystems, biodiversity, and the communities that depend on nature.
Together, let us protect our biodiversity and build a sustainable future for people and nature.
